Mr. William Burleigh Lingo, 89, husband of the late Naomi Carpenter Lingo and a long time resident of Cape Charles, passed away at Heritage Hall Health Care in Nassawadox Wednesday, September 17, 2008. Born in Jamesville, he was the son of the late Shelly Joynes Lingo and the late Blanche Tilghman Lingo. Known as "Lingo", he worked most of his adult life in Cape Charles in various positions including Fulcher and Martin Oil, Kane Miller Canning Company, Bay Shore Concrete, and the town of Cape Charles. He was a United States Army Veteran and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Mr. Lingo is survived by his daughter, Nancy Lingo Powell and her husband Thomas Purnell of Pasadena, MD, a sister Lelia L. Dix of Albuquerque, N. M.; three grandchildren, Thomas P. Powell, Jr. and his wife Carrie of Rochester, WA, Dr. Elizabeth Frances Brittan-Powell and her husband Dr. Christopher Brittan-Powell of Berwyn Heights, MD, Police Sgt. Andrew William Powell of Pasadena, MD; eight great grandchildren, Thomas John, Sean Lingo and Henry William Brittan-Powell of Berwyn Heights, MD, Alicia J. Powell of Las Vegas, NV, Reini Side and Leila McGriff of Olympia, WA, Stephanie Lund of Tumwater, WA and Cameron Bergeron of Rochester, WA; one great great-grandchild, Josiah McGriff of Olympia, WA, and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by four brothers, Monroe O., James W., Walter S., James H. Lingo and a sister, Louise Lingo Colonna. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 22, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery with Military Honors. The Rev. Jack D. Pruitt will officiate.
