William C. Davis

William C. Davis, a lifetime resident of Davis Wharf, Virginia, died on January 12, 2010 at the age of 86. Born on Glebe Farm on August 25, 1923 to Forrest M. and Edna Wise Davis, he was a respected and well-loved husband, father, and grandfather. Bill spent his entire life farming in the Davis Wharf/Craddockville area. He was a member of Craddockville United Methodist Church where he faithfully served in numerous leadership roles. A 1940 graduate of Central High School, Painter, Virginia, Bill was the last President of the Virginia Sweet Potato Association, a founding member and president of the Northampton Marketing Cooperative, a member of the Eastern Shore Farmer's Market Board, and was active in the Little Pungo Ruitan Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audell Davis; sisters, Charlotte A. Davis and Anna Lou Bundick; and brothers, Forrest M. Davis and Henry J. Davis. He is survived by his sons Robert A. Davis and his wife, Joanne, of Virginia Beach; Steve W. Davis and his wife Teresa, of Lancaster, Virginia; and Rev. Scott E. Davis and his wife, Laurie, of Alexandria, Virginia; a brother, Pete W. Davis and his wife Nancy of Davis Wharf, Virginia; eight grandchildren Daniel Davis of Virginia Beach; Kristin O'Sullivan of Virginia Beach and Jonathan O'Sullivan of Alexandria, Virginia; Jessie Brown of Pensacola, Florida; Emily Kauffman of Virginia Beach; Zoe Davis of Lancaster, Virginia; Sarah and Jordan Davis of Alexandria, Virginia; as well as great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, January 15th, at the Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore, Virginia. A service to celebrate his life will be held at Craddockville United Methodist Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 16, with interment following at the Davis family cemetery. The Rev. Kenneth T. Armstrong will officiate. Friends are invited to join the family for a reception in the Craddockville Church Fellowship Hall.
