William Eddy Clark (Bill) passed away August 9, 2017 at his home in Melfa, Virginia. He was born April 19, 1939 in Broome County, New York to Majorie E. Clark Rice (deceased) and Franklin W. Clark (deceased). In 1957 Bill joined the U.S. Navy. In 1965 he served in Vietnam with the 3rd Marines Div. as senior Corpsman (DOC) 2/3 Echo Co. In 1967 Bill returned to Vietnam with the 1st Searchlight Battery 12th Marines serving in Quang Tri Province. While in Gio Lyn, Bill received the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with (Bronze Star) for coming to the aid of 3 wounded ARVN and giving first aid in an unmarked mine field.
In 1970 Bill served aboard the USS Independence and in 1972 he served aboard the USS Mt. Whitney. In 1976 Bill retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief.
In civilian life he worked as a medical lab technician at Virginia Beach General Hospital and DePaul Hospital. In 2002 Bill and his wife Mary (Dee) moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Bill (Lab Guy) went to work again for Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital doing phlebotomy for the local nursing homes and working in the Shore Lab on weekends until he was 76. He made many friends with nurses and patients, some patients would only let Mr. Bill collect their blood.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary A. Clark (Dee); Duane Smith (daughter) and her husband, David, Leighann Blanchard, Stephen Roberts; grandchildren, Victoria Macgill, Kandis Smith, Chelsea Fredrickson, Amanda Roberts Dalton, Heather Clark, Allison Brooke Tello-Knox, Donald Macgill, and Alex Clark; and a brother, Richard Clark and sister, Edra Yoder, both of Ohio.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 14, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Mary Jimenez officiating. Family will join friends at the funeral home Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to S.P.C.A. Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 164, Onley, VA 23418.
