Wayne Sturgis

B. Wayne Sturgis, 58, a resident of Exmore, VA, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at his residence. A native of Wachapreague, VA, he was the son of the late Bernie Lee Sturgis and the late Georgie Smullin Peppler. He served in the United States Coast Guard. He is survived by three daughters, Crystal S. Hart and her husband, Sean, of Exmore, Melissa S. Doyle and her husband, David, of Frederick, MD, Susan S. Stern and her husband, Jason, of Keller, VA; a sister, Linda S. Spence of Belle Haven, VA; a brother, Brad Sturgis and his wife, Theresa, of Warsaw, VA; his long time companion, Joyce Stevens of Chesconessex, VA; six grandchildren, Andrew, Olivia and Chandler Hart , all of Exmore , Akeely, Trinity and Liam Stern, all of Keller; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Shirley Ann Smith and a stepfather, Fritz Peppler. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Holly Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Fire Company, Inc., P.O. Box 706, Exmore, VA 23350.
