Virginia Shield

September 28, 1919 — July 10, 2014

On July 10, 2014 our angel with butterfly wings ascended into heaven. Virginia Rogers Shield was born September 28, 1919 to Abe and Juda McKinney in Longbranch, WVA. After relocating to Newport News, VA in 1955, she began working for Phelps Interiors and later The Pilgrim House as an Interior Decorator. She is survived by her husband of fifty years, Louis S Shield, Jr.; a sister Ethel Bade of Atlantic City, NJ, her children and their spouses , Kay and Bob Caminade, Jimmy and Shirley Rogers all of Hampton, VA and Jeania and Jimmy Branch from Wardtown, VA; also eight grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her first husband, James G Rogers; grandson, Winston E Mawyer, Jr.; granddaughter, Virginia Diane Brooks; great grandson, Adrian N Mawyer; two brothers and five sisters. A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. In lieu of flowers please send a donation in her name to CHKD, 601 Children's Lane, Norfolk, VA 23507.
