Vickie Lynn Thornes, 69, wife of Robert “Bob” Thornes, Sr. and a resident of Parksley, VA, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Saber Shore Health & Rehab in Parksley. Born January 23, 1954 and raised in Deep Creek, VA, she was the daughter of the late Charles M. Scott and the late Beatrice Williams Scott. She attended Onancock High School and after working at the R&G Shirt Factory and Be-Lo Supermarket, she and her husband went into business as “Bob’s Texaco” in Parksley in 1985, where she continued to “run the show” for over 35 years. Well known and liked in her community, she was quick with a smile and known for her no nonsense business manner. Gatherings at “Nanny’s House” were always special; she enjoyed her grandchildren and always prepared a wonderful home cooked dinner for everyone.
In addition to her loving husband of 53 years, she is survived by her children, Latasha “Tash” Thornes of Greenbush, VA, Robert “Lil Bob” Thornes, Jr. (Michelle) of Onancock, VA, Amy Thornes Amadeo (Don) of Harborton, VA, and Paul E. Thornes (Ashley) of Justisville, VA; brother, Newman Scott (Sharon) of Onancock; sisters, Cora Sue Campbell (Jimmy) of Exmore, VA, and Debbie Russell (Alan) of Parksley; grandchildren, Travis Thornes, Olivia Thornes, Taylor Thornes, Jacob Thornes, Caitlyn Amadeo, Paige Treadwell (Brennan), Jordan Amadeo (Sarah), Rhiannon Amadeo, and Scarlett Thornes; and great grandchildren, Marleigh, Lily, Kristopher, Matthew and Emmy. She was predeceased by her sister, Sylvia “Tib” Ayers (H.W.).
