Thomas Whitney Mitchell, 77, husband of Aileen Parks Mitchell for 53 years and a resident of Painter, formerly of Cheriton, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Shore Memorial Hospital. Mr. Mitchell, a native of Portsmouth, Va., was the son of the late James Mitchell and the late Mary Woodard Mitchell. He was a member and deacon of the Eastville Baptist Church, member of Capeville Masonic Lodge #107 AF&AM, Portsmouth Scottish Rites of Freemasonry. He was a former employee of the Virginia Ferry Corporation as a wheelsman, 2nd and 1st mate on the ferries running between Kiptopeake and Little Creek, Va. and Cape May, N.J. and Lewis, DE. He was later employed as a boiler operator at KMC Foods in Cheriton. Other than his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas L. Mitchell and his wife Lori of Painter, Va., two nephews, Jim and Tom Belote of Ridgefield, Conn. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday February 7, 2006 at Cape Charles Cemetery with the Rev. Keith Horner and Mr. Kemmie Dize officiating.
