Thomas L. Gray, 65, of Cape Charles, VA, died peacefully at the family's beach home, on Sunday, August 22, 2010. He was born in Meadville, PA, August 26, 1944, a son of Thomas L. Gray Sr. and Mattie Lou Walker. He married Carolyn Vietta Chapman on March 26, 1971. She survives. He retired from the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (FRTIB) in 2006 as an Assistant General Counsel for Administration. During his time with FRTIB, he also served as Director of the Office of Administration. Prior to that, he held the position of Senior Attorney with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). Other positions included Chairman of the English Department at Birnin Kudu Secondary School in Kano State, Nigeria, and English Instructor at West Virginia State College. He was a graduate of Ohio Northern University, Bowling Green State University, and Suffolk University School of Law. He was a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and the Pennsylvania State Bar Association. He served as Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1967. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his son, Jason Gray of New York, NY; four sisters, Nita Duncan of Huntsville, AL, Mary Gray of Woodbridge, VA, Doreen Gray of Kensington, MD, and Carol Young of Germantown, MD; four brothers, Eddie Lee Gray of Meadville, PA, Rev. Richard Gray of Wilmore, KY, Paul Gray of Meadville, PA, William Dalton Gray of Meadville, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 1st at 10 a.m. at People's Congregational United Church of Christ at 4704 13th Street, NW, Washington, D.C., 20011.
