Mr. Thomas West Custis, 84, husband of the late Prudie Fulcher Custis and a resident of Pungoteague, passed away Friday, April 27, 2007 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. Born in Craddockville on May 1, 1922, he was the son of the late William Thomas and Stella Bull Custis. Mr. Custis served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and retired as Chief Petty Officer in 1960. He worked for Exxon Oil Company for 20 years before retiring to Pungoteague. He was a devoted and faithful supporter of the Lighthouse Ministries, an accomplished cook and a friend to many. He is survived by two daughters, Sheila Custis Compisi and her husband Richard of Annapolis, Md., Deborah Custis Davis and her husband George of Red Bank, Melfa, Va.; three sisters, Mary Hargis of Craddockville, Va., Bernice Walls of Onley, Va., Ardis Haines of Reading, Pa.; four grandchildren, Kerry Lynn O'Neill, James V. O'Neill, Laura O'Neill Shepard, Thomas Scott Davis, and five great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Custis and his sisters, Nellie Custis Turner and Dorothy Custis Drummond. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 30th at 11:00 am from the graveside of Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock with Pastor Michael Muender officiating.
