Sylvanus James Nutter

Sylvanus James Nutter, 88, husband of Claire T. Nutter and a resident of Keller, VA, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2016 at his residence. A native of Keller, he was the son of the late Marl M. Nutter and the late Mary Phillips Nutter. He was a United States Navy Veteran, merchant marine, retired heavy equipment operator, member of Operating Engineers Local 542 in Philadelphia, PA for 62 years, member of Richmond-Solomon Masonic Lodge #3 AF & AM, Past Worthy Patron of Onley Chapter #82 Order of the Eastern Star and former Mayor of the Town of Keller.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son, James Allen Nutter and his wife, Kathy, of Buena Vista, CO; two daughters, Marie Elena Cardace and her husband, Jeffrey, of Melbourne, FL, Carole Anne Elliott of Keller; six grandchildren, Jamie Nutter, Joseph Nutter, Jeannie Nutter, Stephanie Lauren Fox, Brett Allen Elliott, Christopher Nutter and four great grandchildren, Wesley Donald, Hayden, Emilie Ann and Aarik. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Virginia Begley.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverend Jack D. Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery. Family will join friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
