Spencer M. Powell

Spencer M. Powell, 82, husband of the late Connie Dickerson Powell and the late Anna Ruth Powell and a resident of Onancock, VA, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Victoria, Virginia, he was the son of the late Clarence Clifton Powell and the late Minnie Pearl Elmore Powell. He was formerly a partner in C.C. Powell & Sons, Inc. and superintendent of public works for the Town of Victoria. He was a member of Victoria Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Powell is survived by his daughter, Beverly Powell Leatherbury and her husband Dixon of Machipongo, VA; four step children, Scott McLaughlin of Chase City, VA, Steve McLaughlin and Mary Pat Johnson, both of Victoria, and Larry Powell of Richmond, VA; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services with military honors will be conducted Friday, August 29, 2008 at 3:00 PM from the graveside of Lakeview Cemetery in Victoria with Rev. Stanley Hare officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 and Friday afternoon from 12:00 to 1:00 at the Staples Funeral Home, 2300 Nottoway Blvd., Victoria, VA 23974.
