Southey Teagle Nottingham III passed away on October 17, 2015 in Greenville, NC. He was born on June 16, 1925 on a farm in Northampton County, Virginia, the son of Southey Teagle Nottingham II and Margaret Neul Nottingham. Following high school graduation in Eastville, Virginia in 1942, he entered the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific His last duty was the invasion of Okinawa. Among several ribbons earned in WWII was the combat action ribbon and he was a service connected atomic veteran. After returning from WWII, he entered college at Virginia Tech receiving a BS in Civil Engineering. His professional career included several years as a highway engineer with the Maryland Department of Transportation, and later as the County Engineer for Frederick County Maryland. He also served as president of the Maryland Association of County Engineers. For the last 20 years of his career he operated his own professional engineering and land surveying firm. He was also project engineer on highways, bridges, airports, wastewater plants and multi level parking decks. He was a licensed Professional Engineer, licensed Professional Land Surveyor, a licensed Pilot, a member of the American Legion, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a life member of Johnson's Methodist Church of Northampton County, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Willard Neul Nottingham and his sister Betty Lou Hopper. He is survived by his two sons, Wayne Nottingham and wife, Margaret, of Greenville, NC, and Stanley Nottingham and wife, Janet, of Sims, NC, his grandchildren Kelly Nottingham Davis and husband, Matt, Mark Nottingham and wife, Jessica, Tyler Nottingham, and Sara Nottingham Garris and husband, Brad. He also was blessed with 4 great grandchildren, Ethan, Grace and Cole Davis and Owen Nottingham. A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 1:30 PM at Johnson's United Methodist Church Cemetery with Reverend Clarence Bowen officiating.
