Clarence Nottingham Churn, Jr., better known as Slim, 87, husband of Rita Smullin Churn and a resident of Lady Lake, FL, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2017, at his residence. A native of Bridgetown, VA, he was the son of the late Clarence Nottingham Churn, Sr. and the late Mary Floyd Churn. He was a professional baseball player and manager, and a farmer. He was a United States Army Korean War Veteran, member of Delmarva Baseball Hall of Fame, and the Professional Baseball Players Association.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by a son, Charles Carey Churn and his wife, Tina, of Seaview, VA; a stepdaughter, Monica Johnson and her husband, Tom, of Craddockville, VA; three sisters, Barbara Willis of Cheriton, VA, Eliza Cox of Summerfield, FL, and Lucy Ames of Townsend, VA; two grandchildren, Leslie Williams and her husband, Dereck, of Norfolk, VA, and Carey Voetberg and her husband, Ben, of Wake Forest, NC; two step grandchildren, Erika Hinman and her husband, Josh, of Seaview, VA, and Brandi Etz and her friend, Jon Parrish, of Parksley, VA; and six great grandchildren, Max, Mason, Charlotte, Miles, Elijah and Winter. He was predeceased by a brother, Jimmy Churn, and two sisters, Flora Ella Dutton and Eleanor Allen.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 4, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Johnson's United Methodist Church with Reverend Clarence Bowen officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, P. O. Box 615, Onley, VA 23418.
