Mrs. Sarah Burton Nottingham, 93, wife of the late John Marion Nottingham, Sr. for sixty six years and a resident of Cheriton, passed away Thursday June 30, 2005 at her residence on the family farm. Mrs. Nottingham, a native of Wachapreague, was the daughter of the late William Herber Burton and the late Juanita Bunting Burton. She was a member of Cheriton Baptist Church and its Women's Missionary Union. She was graduate of Mary Washington College and a former school teacher for Accomack County Public Schools. Mrs. Nottingham is survived by a son, John Marion Nottingham, Jr. and wife Martha Duer of Cheriton, Va., a daughter, Patty Nottingham Ferguson and husband George Ronald of Onley, Va., five grandchildren; Catherine Nottingham, Susan Murphy and husband Michael, John Nottingham, III and wife Amy, Elizabeth Ferguson Williams and husband Wayne, George Ronald Ferguson, Jr. and wife Jamie, six great grandchildren; Rebecca Bell, Carly Nottingham, Jamary Ferguson and Jocelyn Ferguson, Carter Logan Nottingham, Grace Evelyn Williams, two sisters; Mary Burton Ashby and Ruth Burton Fitzhenry, one brother; Cardinal Lambetine Burton. Mrs. Nottingham was pre-deceased by three brothers; William Bill Burton, Thomas Burton and Charles E. Burton. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday July 3, 2005 at 1:30 PM from the graveside of Cape Charles Cemetery with Dr. Charles Peterson officiating.
