Sara Hackney Carroll, 77, a resident of Cape Charles, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Heritage Hall Health Care in Nassawadox. She was the wife of the late James O. Carroll and Richard Long. A native of Matthews, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Robert Henry Hackney and Bessie Geneva Byrd Hackney. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Onley. She was a loving mother, seamstress, and geriatric care giver. She was the youngest of eleven children. She is survived by six children, Gail L. Scott and her husband Rawlings of Cape Charles, Va., Richard D. Long of Charlotte, N.C., Steven L. Long of Monroe, N.C., Joy Ann Hall and her husband Thomas of Longmont, CO., Christopher H. Long and his wife Angela of Stanfield, N.C., Anthony M. Long and his wife Melissa of Cape Charles, Va.; a sister, Emma Jane Tomlinson of McClenny, Fla.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held from the graveside of Cape Charles Cemetery Monday, February 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with President Greg West officiating. Family will join friends at the Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30.
