Sadie Phillips Bowen

December 11, 1919 — December 8, 2007

Mrs. Sadie Phillips Bowen, 87, wife of the late John Wesley Bowen and a resident of Exmore, passed away Saturday, December 8, 2007 at Shore Memorial Hospital. A native of Hog Island, Mrs. Bowen was the daughter of the late John and Pearl Powell Phillips. Mrs. Bowen retired from the Gregg Harriett Shirt Factory and was a member of the Exmore Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Louis W. Bowen of Exmore, three sisters; Nora P. Johnson of Exmore, Va., Marion P. Chesser, Mary P. Brown, both of Willis Wharf, Va., 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and a devoted friend of fifty years, Lorraine Edmonson. Mrs. Bowen was predeceased by a son, Kenneth "Jack" Bowen, Sr., two sisters, Mae P. Bowen and Ruby Badger, three brothers, Labon, Granville and Morrison Phillips. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at 2:00 PM from the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery, with the Rev. Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Family will join friends Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore.
