S. James Burton, Jr.

February 10, 1943 — June 4, 2013

The city of Fredericksburg, VA lost one of its icons on June 4th when S. James Burton, Jr. ("Jim") went to be with the Lord. Jim passed peacefully to the other side. He had battled health issues for several years and struggled severely in the last couple months. He was born on February 10, 1943 and spent his formative years in Eastville on Virginia's Eastern Shore. After graduation from Northampton High School in 1960, he attended VCU in Richmond and received an Associate Degree in Draft & Design. Jim spent most of his adult life in Fredericksburg where he was a Home Decorator and Antique Furniture dealer. His most prized possessions were his many friendships that he created throughout the years. His passion for bluegrass music and Martin guitars was paramount in his life. He was a lifetime member of Eastville Baptist Church, and a member of Capeville Masonic Lodge #107. He is survived by his mother, Bertha Lee Burton of Eastville, his brother and sister-in-law Keith and Bev Burton of Midlothian, nephew Scott Burton of Richmond, nephew Taylor Burton of Queens, NY and longtime companion Hannah Bloodgood-Russ. A service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Doughty Funeral Home, 3117 Main Street, Exmore, VA. A memorial and tribute celebration will be held in Fredericksburg in July. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.doughtyfuneralhome.com Arrangements were made by Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore, Virginia.
