Ruth Wells Citro, 91, wife of the late Louis L. Citro, Sr. and a resident of Exmore, VA, formerly of Baltimore, MD, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 at her residence. A native of Tangier Island, VA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. Charnock and the late Geneva Thomas Charnock. Mrs Citro left Tangier in 1940 after graduation and moved to Baltimore. While in Baltimore she was a professional softball player and raised 76 foster children as well as four children of her own. She worked at Continental Can Company, Riverview Nursing Center as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Heartley Hall Nursing Home, Ruth and Lynn's Day Care Center and Shore Kids, Inc., and was a member of the North Point Baptist Church. She is survived by four children, Louis L. Citro, Jr. of Greensboro, MD, Donna Maria Citro of Salisbury, MD, Lynn C. Turner of Exmore, Santino J. Citro and his wife, Darlene, of Oak Hall, VA; a sister, Stella Keaser of Pocomoke City, MD; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by an infant son; a sister, Mae Taylor and six brothers,Redell Charnock, Everette Charnock, Ernest Charnock, Joseph L. Charnock, Jr., Thomas Charnock and Henry Allen Charnock. A graveside service will be held Monday, September 16, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Downings Cemetery, Oak Hall, VA with the Reverend Judith Worthington officiating. Family will join friends at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore on Monday morning from 9:00 to 11:00.
