Rufus C. Byrd, Jr.

Rufus Clifton Byrd, Jr., 80, husband of the late Margaret Lewis Byrd and a resident of Birdsnest passed away Saturday August 13, 2005 at Shore Memorial Hospital. Mr. Byrd, a native of Suffolk was the son of the late Rufus Clifton Byrd and the late Eunice Blanch Wilson Byrd. Mr. Byrd was a retired manager of Colonial Grocery Stores with forty years of service and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. Mr. Byrd is survived by three children, Rufus Clifton Byrd, III and his wife Anna of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Katherine Averill of Rowlett, Texas and Horace Lewis Stepp and his wife Christa of Yorktown, Va., three grandchildren and a sister in law, Lois L. Powell of Quinby. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday August 17, 2005 at 11:00 AM from the Doughty Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack D. Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in the Red Bank Cemetery, Marionville. Family will join friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Arrangement made by Doughty Funeral Home, Exmore.
