Robert “Doc” Marshall, 69, passed away on February 22, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and quiet, steady devotion to the people he cared about most.
He was a man of few words, but his actions said all that needed to be said.
He showed his love in the way he worked tirelessly to provide for his family, in the way he always showed up, no matter what, and in the way he would fix things before anyone even had to ask.
His humor was quick, his kindness effortless, and his presence unwavering.
He wasn’t one for grand gestures, but you could depend on him to whistle a tune as he went about his day, to crack a joke at the time you needed it most, or to offer simple words of encouragement that somehow made everything feel a little better.
His love for his wife was obvious in the way he lived his life. For 45 years, through thick and thin, they were a team, and it was clear that his devotion to her was unwavering.
His daughters saw him as their hero, not because he said the right things, but because he loved them.
Becoming "Pop Pop" was one of the greatest joys of his life. He wasn’t just a proud Pop Pop—he was a doting one, always ready to share a laugh, a snack, or a few words of wisdom.
During the years he worked at Food Lion leading towards his retirement, he had earned the respect of others not just for his dedication, but for the way he treated people – with warmth, wit, and a kindness that made everyone feel welcome.
He is survived by his wife Debbie and their daughters and families: Amanda (Adam - Clara & Robbie) Delmont of Machipongo, Jennifer (Ryan - Elijah, Amaris, & Ivy) Strope of Binghamton, NY, and April (George - Haley, Jupiter, Summer, & Emma) Gaskill of Cape Charles; Brother Zachary Raymond Marshall; Sisters Betty Downing, Irene Collins, Brenda Leontieff, Jo Ann Lewis.
His laughter, his music, and the simple, steady love he gave will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
He was predeceased by his parents, Zachary Raymond Marshall Sr and Barbara Ann Marshall; brothers, Zachary Wayne Marshall, Ricky Marshall, and James Marshall; sister, Bonnie Marshall.
