Robert A. Gladden

Robert A. Gladden, 89, husband of Gloria Powers Gladden, a resident of Birdsnest, VA, passed away Friday, July 21, 2017, at his residence. A native of Birdsnest, he was the son of the late Clarence Russell Gladden and the late Caroline Ester Downing Gladden. He was the former owner of Gladden Tire Service and a member of Central Masonic Lodge 300 AF & AM and Belle Haven United Methodist Church.

In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two children, Alan Gladden and his wife, Kathee, of Marionville, VA, and Miriam Gladden Sturgis and her husband, Lennie, of Birdsnest; a sister, Rosebel Gladden Pruitt and her husband, Thomas, of Melfa, VA; two sisters-in law, Alice Brady and her husband, Rudy, of Birdsnest, and Frances Roberts of Quinby, VA; six grandchildren, Quinten Gladden and his wife, Serena, of Quinby, Duane Gladden and his wife, Bridget, of Marionville, Amy Sturgis of Birdsnest, Martha Sturgis of Onley, VA, Keri Ganz and her husband, Scott, of Sterling, VA, and Eric Stewart and his wife, Michelle, of Marionville; and ten great grandchildren, Rebecca, Dustin, Hannah, Hailey, Jocelynn, Caroline, Peyton, Jake, Gerry and Megan. He was predeceased by two sisters, Annie G. Bell and Carolyn Harrison, and two brothers, C.R. Bud Gladden and Garland Gladden.

A graveside service will be conducted Monday, July 24, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverends Paul Oh, Jonathan Carpenter and Jack D. Pruitt officiating. Family will join friends at Doughty Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 7 to 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Belle Haven United Methodist Church, P. O.
