Robert Charles Gennings

November 20, 1952 — August 2, 2012

Robert Charles Gennings, age 59, beloved husband of Mary Katherine Belote Gennings and a resident of Williamsburg, Va., passed away Thursday, August 2nd. A native of Texas, but born in Arkansas, he was the son of the late Robert Truman Gennings and the late Helen Percell Gennings. Mr. Gennings was a retired heavy equipment operator for George Nice and Sons. Previously he worked for the Missouri State Highway Department, and in the oil fields of Texas. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Robert Bryan Gennings of Williamsburg, Va., Kimberly Faye Osterdyk of Golden City, Mo., James Frances Hertig II and companion, Tedra Whitting, of Gravois Mills, Mo., Katherine Danielle Cook and husband, Gray, of Chatham, Va., and Luther Tankard Burgess and companion, Amber, of Cape Charles, Va.; two sisters, Sister Catherine Clare of Greenwich, NY, and Nancy Logan and husband, Jim, of Gonzales, TX. He leaves behind 15 grandchildren ranging in age from 9 months to 17 years old. Mr. Gennings loved the outdoors, being with his wife and family. He loved hunting, fishing, kayaking and canoeing. His true passion, however, was his Harley. He will be sadly missed by all. A celebration of his life will be held Monday, August 6th at Sunset (7:30 pm) at the north end of the Cape Charles Beach front. The Reverend Linwood Cook will officiate. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
