Robert William Erwin, Sr.
February 1, 1937 — March 23, 2017
Robert William Erwin, Sr., 80, husband of Sarah Payne Erwin and a resident of Exmore, VA, formerly of Richmond, VA, passed away Thursday, March 23, 2017 at his residence. A native of Alleghany County, VA, he was the son of the late Lee William Erwin and the late Evelyn May Erwin. He was a retired Operator for DuPont in Richmond and a member of Painter-Garrison's United Methodist Church and Emmaus.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two children, Robert W. Erwin, Jr. and his wife, Norma, of Cheriton, VA, Steven L. Erwin, Sr. of Mechanicsville, VA; two sisters, Emma Lou Lockhart of Clifton Forge, VA, Thelma Jean Bryant of White Sulphur Springs, WV; and eleven grandchildren, Devin Simmons and her husband, Ricky, of Covington, VA, Steven Erwin, Jr. and Dillon Erwin, both of Hanover, VA, Joshua Toms, Benjamin Toms-Lucy, Andrew Toms-Lucy, Christian Toms-Lucy, Jonathan Toms-Lucy, Bethany Toms-Lucy, Nathaniel Toms-Lucy, and Caleb, all of Mechanicsville, VA. He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Flint; daughter, Laura Erwin Toms and great granddaughter, Carolynne Simmons.
A celebration of life service will be conducted Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Painter-Garrison's United Methodist Church with Reverend Curtis D. Lucy officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Eastern Shore of Virginia Habitat for Humanity, P. O. Box 1299, Exmore, Virginia 23350.
