Robert L. Carpenter, 82, husband of Doris K. Carpenter and a resident of Winter Haven, FL, formerly of Nassawadox, VA, passed away Friday, August 5, 2011 at Astoria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Winter Haven. A native of Machipongo, VA, he was the son of the late Pete and Mary Carpenter. He was the owner of the BP Gas and Tire Station in Weirwood for over 20 years and was known as an avid rabbit hunter, who hunted off the Red Bank Shores. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Richard Carpenter and Roberta Carpenter, both of Winter Haven, Douglas Greer and wife, Dixie of Exmore, VA, William Carpenter of Virginia Beach, VA; two sisters, Ann Harrison of Exmore, and Louise Hudgins of Nassawadox; sister-in-law, Marie Carpenter, also of Nassawadox; two grandchildren, Wayne Greer and wife, Nancy Carol, Stephanie Mancuso and husband, Gary; and six great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Robert Carpenter, Jr., a brother, Jack Carpenter, three sisters, Lula Lee Carpenter, Mary Dean Kellam, and Betty Carpenter. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Belle Haven Cemetery with Rev. Jack Pruitt officiating.
