Richard David Lewis, 83, husband of Evelyn Bell Lewis and a resident of Cheriton, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at his residence. A native of Wachapreague, VA, he was the son of the late Edward H. Lewis and the late Florence Richardson Lewis. Mr. Lewis was a retired painting contractor.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by two daughters, Judy L. Fitchett and her friend, Scott Olivetto, of Eastville, VA, Nancy R. Lewis and her companion, Melvin Swift, of Cedarview, VA; four sisters, Rebecca L. Jordan of Newport News, VA, Silva L. Stephens of Jacksonville, FL, Thelma L. Abbott of Cheriton, Cornelia L. Booker of Cheriton; two brothers, Vernon Lewis of Cheriton, Samuel Lewis of Singers Island, FL; two granddaughters, Suzanne M. Henderson and her husband, Peter, of Bridgetown, VA, Alison Fitchett and her wife, Heather, of Norfolk, VA; two great grandchildren, Conner Henderson of Bridgetown, Charlotte Henderson of Bridgetown and a beloved niece, Arlene Bell of Melfa, VA. He was predeceased by two sons, Richard David Lewis, Jr., Carlton Wayne Lewis and a grandson, Ryan Mitchell Fitchett.
A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Cape Charles Cemetery with Reverend Russell Goodrich officiating. Family will join friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 7:00 to 8:30. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Riverside Shore Hospice, P.O. Box 615, Onley, VA 23418.
