Richard Bates Landon, better known as Rooster, 62, husband of Mary Lee Merritt Landon and a resident of Eastville,VA, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. A native of Tangier Island, VA, he was the son of the late Willie Bates Landon and the late Panit-Lee Abraham Landon. He was a retired Commercial Fisherman and a member of Swan Church in Tangier. Richard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He always called his wife and daughters his three girls. His grandchildren were the loves of his life. Other than his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his two daughters, Renee' Nicole Landon and her fiancé, Chris, of Eastville, Christina Landon Bonniwell and her husband, Jason, of Virginia Beach, VA; a sister, Sue Landon Pruitt and her husband, Guy, of Onancock, VA; a brother, Joshua Landon; five grandchildren, Taylor Bonniwell, Marissa Bonniwell, both of Eastville, Nicole Sailey, Tylar Bonniwell, Natalya Bonniwell , all of Virginia Beach; a mother-in-law, Doris V. Merritt of Cheriton, VA; three sisters-in-law, Lillie Parker and her husband, Buddy, Teresa Wayman and her husband, Bart, Angela Merritt and her husband, Niva; three brothers-in-law, Elton Merritt Jr., Timothy Merritt and his wife, Karen, Christopher Merritt and his wife, Lisa; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and a special Uncle, Ed Landon, with whom he had a special relationship. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Full Gospel Church with Reverend Randy Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Charles Cemetery.
