Mr. Richard Edward Brookshier, 62, husband of Phyllis Brock Brookshier and a resident of Onancock, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina as a result of a motorcycle accident. A native of Kansas, he was the son of the late Martin and Betty Flanders Brookshier. He was a retired Force Recon Special Forces and Gunnery Sergeant for the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Disabled American Veterans Organization. He proudly served three tours in Vietnam, and was the recipient of several medals which include the Bronze Star for Valor and six Purple Hearts. Other than his wife, he is survived by four children: Yvette Brozzo and her husband George of Boykins, Va., Ann Marie Buchanan and her husband David of Edenton, N.C., Pamela K. Neese and her husband Joe of Brokenarrow, Ok., Bonnie Sue Whitney and her husband Mark of Onancock, Va.; three sisters, Virginia Boas and her husband Steven of California, Sharon Hill and her husband Bill of Norfolk, Va., Patty Kersey and her husband Joel of Virginia Beach, Va.; seven grandchildren, Corey, Joey, Kati, James, Brianna, Hope, Jessica and one great granddaughter, Olivia. Mr. Brookshier was predeceased by his best friend and son, Dale Michael Brookshier. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the graveside of Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock with military honors. The Rev. Jack D. Pruitt will officiate.
