Richard Kramer Barton, affectionately known as Ralphie, 85, husband of Jacquelyn M. Barton and a resident of Cape Charles, VA, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Shore Life Care at Parksley. A native of Bluefield, WV, he was the son of the late Elmer C. Barton and the late Lottie Lawrence Barton. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army , 1st District Commander of the Eastern Shore American Legion and Commander for Post 56 in Cape Charles, a member of the Cape Charles Lions Club, a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was the town manager of Cape Charles from 1988 to 1995. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Rev. Richard E. Barton and his wife Gloria of New York, E. Christopher Barton and his wife Pam of Florida; a daughter, Jenna L. Henderson and her husband Lee of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Eli, Noel, Erin, Sam, Sarah, Brian, Miriah, Tye ; two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Barton Shields. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Wilkins-Doughty Funeral Home in Cape Charles with Rev. Jack D. Pruitt officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the American Legion Post 56 in Cheriton, VA. Contributions in his memory may be made to underprivileged children and orphanages.
