Rhoda Sterling

Rhoda Hargis Sterling, 85, devoted and loving wife of Vernon Thomas Sterling and a resident of Wachapreague, VA, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Wachapreague, she was the daughter of the late John Milton Hargis (Toby) and the late Catherine Taylor Hargis. She retired from The Hermitage on the Eastern Shore as a C.N.A. She was a dedicated worker and loved her patients. Rhoda was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved cooking and crocheting.
In addition to her husband of 69 years, she is survived by a son, Kenneth T. Sterling, Sr. and his wife, Anna, of Pungoteague, VA; a daughter, Vickie Jones and her husband, Linwood, of Keller, VA; six grandchildren, April Stevens of Keller, Sterling Valentine of Accomac, VA, Victoria Savage of Accomac, Kassidy A'lexis Jones of Keller, Kenny Sterling and his wife, Kelly, of Newport News, VA, Adam Sterling of Wachapreague; five great grandchildren, D.L. Parkerson, Jr., Ny'Zir Dix, Jayce Strand, Payton Savage, Lena Sterling and her loving Jack Russell, Brandy. She was predeceased by her daughter, Sandra Sterling.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Madron officiating. Interment will follow in Wachapreague Cemetery. Family will join friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 6350 Center Drive, Suite 102, Norfolk, VA 23502.
