Rev. Ottis Pope Burns, 76, husband of Joyce Carpenter Burns for 54 years and a resident of Birdsnest, VA, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. A native of Mississippi, he was the son of the late Owen Clyde Burns Sr. and the late Ethel Starnes Burns. He was a retired Baptist minister and a friend to many. In addition to his wife, Rev. Burns is survived by a daughter, Martha Burns of Birdsnest; a brother, Owen C. Burns of California; a son-in-law, Norman C. "Jay" Bell Jr. of Eastville, VA; a daughter-in-law, Karen S. Young Aita and her husband, Frank of Belle Haven, VA; four grandchildren, Norman C. "Little Jay" Bell III and his wife, Trish of Cape Charles, VA, Stacee and Cathy Bell of Eastville, and Tye Willis Burns of Belle Haven; a great-grandson, Masen C. Bell of Cape Charles. He was predeceased by a son, William "Tip" Burns, and a daughter, Debra B. Bell. He lived his life for the Lord and his family and is now resting with the Lord, the ultimate goal. Paw Paw will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 4, 2010, at 2:00 PM at the Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Randy E. Lewis and Pastor Keith Horner officiating.
