Belle Haven, VA 23306
Rachael Lewis Bond, 98, of Norfolk, VA, recently a resident of Heritage Hall in Nassawadox, VA, departed this life on Sunday, July 23, 2017. She was a native of Nansemond County and a member of Park Place Baptist Church, Norfolk. She was a registered nurse working with Dr. W.A. Simpson for 26 years and then with American Red Cross Blood Services for 12 ½ years before retiring. She loved and served God, her church and her fellowman.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda B. Wallace and her husband, Brooks, of Belle Haven, VA; grandson, Stephen B. Wallace of Keller, VA; granddaughter, Karen W. Smalls and her husband, Fred, of Townsend, DE; great grandchildren, Christian and Alana; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and treasured friends - all "kind hearts and gentle people."
She was predeceased by her parents, Henry Douglas Lewis and Ollie Virginia Holland; brothers, Henry Edward Lewis of Panama and Suffolk, VA, Mason Lewis of Baltimore, MD, Nathaniel Lewis of Nansemond County; and sister, Louise L. Robertson of Midlothian, VA. Following the death of her mother she went to live with her mother's sister and family, Jesse and Pauline Holland Hedgebeth of Holland, VA.
A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, July 27, 2017, at 1:00 PM at Belle Haven Cemetery with Reverend David Riley officiating. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in her memory to Hollies Baptist Church, P.O. Box 7, Keller, Virginia 23401.
