Phillip Eugene Barnes, 53, a resident of Exmore, VA, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at his residence. A native of Norfolk, VA, he was the son of the late Duncan W. Barnes and the late Eunice McRoberts Barnes, He was an avid gardener, held an orange belt degree in Karate, enjoyed bowling and basketball. We celebrate the life of this gentleman who was truly a gentle soul. Phillip loved animals; especially his "kitties" and he loved growing things whether they were in pots or planted in the garden. He spread joy wherever he was, and greeted everyone with a beautiful smile. Phillip lived all of his life on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. He enjoyed talking about and being a part of the everyday activities of life in the maritime community, like going fishing, clamming, swimming or watching the boats come and go. Phillip was committed to the challenging path that was set for him in this life and rose above the difficulties of his day to day existence with true grace. We will miss your beautiful presence and wish you all love as you travel "into the light". He is survived by two loving sisters, Jayanne B. Travis and her companion, Wade Walker, of Exmore and Nancy M. Barnes of Norfolk. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
