Nellie Mae Phillips
February 9, 1920 — August 20, 2015
Nellie Mae Carpenter Phillips, 95, wife of the late Vincent D. Phillips and a resident of Weirwood, VA, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Birdsnest, VA, she was the daughter of the late James K. Carpenter and the late Nellie Boole Carpenter. Mrs. Phillips was the youngest and last living of 14 siblings, a retired postal clerk and an active worker in the Community Church of God at Birdsnest for many years.
She is survived by, a granddaughter, Ember Lee Davis and her husband, John, of Columbia, MO; two nephews, Jim Carpenter and his wife, Emily, of Willis Wharf, VA, Austin Carpenter of Los Angeles, CA; numerous nieces and her late son's companion, Marion L. Goyette of Woodbridge, VA. She was predeceased by her son, Vincent Duane Phillips.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Red Bank Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Tommy Kellam officiating. Family will join friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM to noon at Doughty Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Community Church of God, 9079 Birdsnest Drive, Birdsnest, VA 23307.
