Nathaniel "Nat" Atkinson Sr.

Nathaniel "Nat" Hastings Atkinson Sr., 74, husband of the late Helen Parker Atkinson and a resident of Wachapreague, VA, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011, at his residence. He was the son of Elvira Atkinson of Nassawadox, VA and the late Jim Atkinson. He was retired from the U. S. Coast Guard and Bagwell Oil Company. In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sons, Nat Atkinson Jr. and his wife, Susie, of Wachapreague, J.P. Atkinson and his wife, Paula, of Belle Haven, VA, Karl Lee Atkinson of Wachapreague, and Gary Atkinson and his wife, Angie, of Keller, VA; two brothers, Bill Atkinson and his wife, Pat, of Exmore, VA, and Herman Atkinson and his wife, Aggie, of Bowie MD; eleven grandchildren, Tres, Crystal, Parke, Travis, Austin, Helen, Mallory, Shelby, Courtney, Sidney, and Elliott. Other than his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Ernest Sidney Atkinson, and a grandson, Jared Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His interests included attending his grandchildren's little league games, riding his moped, cutting grass, going to bingo and the liar's corner in Wachapreague. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 20, 2011, at 2:00 PM at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery.
