Myrtle Melson Ward

Myrtle Melson Ward, 84, wife of Wesley T. Ward and a resident of Wardtown, VA, passed away Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, VA. A native of Northampton County, VA, she was the daughter of the late Lynwood and Ethel Lingo Melson. Mrs. Ward was a member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church, a retired teacher's aide with Northampton County Public Schools, member of the Women of the Moose, and a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Community Fire Company. Other than her husband, she is survived by four children, Dixie W. Greer and husband, Douglas, of Exmore, VA, Diane W. Justice and husband, Barron, of Wardtown, Deborah L. Ward of Wardtown, and Tommy Ward and wife, Angie, of Wardtown; one son-in-law, David W. Mears, of Wardtown; nine grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Fannie Mae Irving and a brother, Billy Melson. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 1, 2012 at 3:00 PM at Belle Haven United Methodist Church with the Reverend Judy Worthington and the Reverend Dr. Charles "Butch" Ligon officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 31, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be sent to Belle Haven United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 37, Belle Haven, VA 23306.
