Mavis L. Joyner

July 25, 1917 — August 5, 2008

Mavis Looney Joyner, 91, wife of the late Harry S. Joyner and a resident of Birdsnest, VA, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Virginia Beach General Hospital. A native of Pike County, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Wilson Pierce Looney and the late Myrtle Adkins Looney. She worked for Dulaney Foods in Exmore. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church, Johnsons Quilters and the VFW. Mrs. Joyner is survived by two sons, Kevin H. Joyner and his wife Debbie of Virginia Beach, VA, and James Wilson Joyner and his wife Carol of Lawrenceville, GA; a stepson, Donald M. Joyner of Tennessee; a brother, Billy J. Looney of Florida; two sisters, Zella Reynolds of Covington, VA,and Vivian A. Joyner of Hampton, VA; brother in law, Carroll Sadler of King George, Va.;12 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild, and 1 great great grandchild. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2008, at 11:00 AM from the Peninsula Memorial Park,12750 Warwick Blvd., Newport News, VA with Pastor Jonathan C. Carpenter officiating. Family will join friends at the Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore Friday evening from 7 to 8:30. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Red Bank Baptist Church, P. O.
