Mary Dare Engle

Mary Dare Stewart Engle, 91, wife of the late James R. Engle, Sr. and a resident of Gloucester, VA, formerly of Concord Wharf, VA, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2016. A native of Concord Wharf, she was the daughter of the late Edward V. Stewart, Sr. and the late Edna Hirst Stewart. She was a retired nurse and social worker and a member of Hungars Episcopal Church. Mary Dare was well known for entertaining her family and friends with her beautiful piano playing.

She is survived by a daughter, Jane E. Todd and her husband, Michael, of Mooresville, NC; a son, Jim Engle and his wife, Rita, of Cobbs Creek, VA; and two grandchildren, Liz Engle and Michael Engle, both of Richmond, VA. She was predeceased by her daughter, Margaret Engle Sullivan, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Doughty Funeral Home, 3117 Main Street, Exmore, VA with Reverend Daniel Crockett officiating. Interment will be private in Belle Haven Cemetery. Family will join friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hungars Episcopal Church, PO Box 367, Eastville, VA 23347.
