Mary Elizabeth Byrd Ames Croom, affectionately known as Bisper, 82, a resident of Nassawadox, VA, formerly of Exmore, VA, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox. A native of Exmore, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. Byrd, Jr. and the late Elizabeth Turner Byrd. She was a beloved mother and grandmother, a homemaker, a sales associate for Roses Department Store in Onley, VA for 17 years, an accomplished bridge player and a member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church. She is survived by five children, Peggy A. Parks and her husband, Jimmy, of Machipongo, VA, Ruth A. Soccio and her husband, Joe, of Newark, DE, Charles P. Ames, Sr. and his wife, Jean, of Exmore, Paige T. Ames and his wife, Suzanne, of Exmore, Cheryl C. Conrow and her husband, Jeff, of Cape Charles, VA; two sisters, Jean Page Steelman and her husband, David, of Accomac, VA, Nancy B. Brown of Monticello, KY; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a sister, Peggy Byrd. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Conrow officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Haven Cemetery.
