Mary Simpson Burgess

Mary Simpson Burgess, a native of Hog Island and a resident of Exmore, died at her residence on May 17. She was 82. The daughter of James Vernon Simpson and Lottie Doughty Simpson, she is survived by her husband of 64 years, Martin L. Burgess, Sr.; her son, Marty Burgess (wife Betty); her daughter, Marianne Scarborough (husband Parke); her daughter, Mamie Taylor (husband Tom); and two sisters, Kay Moore and Nancy Morris. She had 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Burgess was predeceased by her son, Steven Paul Burgess; her brothers, Victor Simpson, Charles Simpson, Chester Simpson, Elmer Simpson, and William Simpson; and her sisters, Olive Bowen, Hilda Tittermary, Ruby Marshall and Marion Bowen.

A private service is planned at a later date. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
