Mary Johns Brown

December 7, 1921 — February 3, 2014

Mary Johns Brown, 92, wife of the late Powell W. Brown and a resident of Quinby, VA, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014 at Heritage Hall Healthcare. A native of Richmond, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Calvin Johns and the late Josephine Harris Johns. She was a retired clerk for Bundick's General Store and a member of Smith Chapel United Methodist Church. She is survived by three children, Clifford W. Brown and his wife, Patti, of Richmond, Sylvia L. Scanlan of Quinby, Karen B. Broadwater and her companion, Donald W. Matthews, of Wachapreague, VA; two grandchildren, Clifford W. Brown, Jr. and his wife, Kristal, of Richmond, Pamela Wells and her husband, Darrell, of Richmond; two great grandsons, Matthew Rhea Wells of Richmond, Colton Wayne Brown of Richmond and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 7, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastors Donna and Steve Doan officiating. Interment will follow in Quinby Cemetery. Family will join friends at Doughty Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7 to 8:30. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Smith Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Gwen Blake, 5046 Seaside Road, Exmore, VA 23350.
