Mary Mears Barber

Mary Mears Barber, 87, of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Friday, March 16, 2012 in Barco, N.C. She was a native of the Eastern Shore of Virginia and the daughter of the late Christopher Carlton Mears, Sr. and the late Lucy Ann Hardiman Mears. She retired as an administrator with Virginia Beach Public Schools and was a member of Baylake Pines United Methodist Church. She is survived by two children, Catherine "Cathy" B. Robbins and her husband, Chris, of Boone, N.C., and William "Beau" Barber of Powells Point, N.C.; one granddaughter, Marissa Barber of Harrisonburg, VA; two nephews, C.C. "Kit" Mears, III of Exmore, VA and Matthew Butler of N.J.; one niece, Lucy Butler Green of TN. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012 at 2 PM at Baylake Pines United Methodist Church, 4300 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach, VA 23455, with Dr. James Driscoll officiating. A private interment in Belle Haven Cemetery will be held at a later date.
