Mary Burton Ashby

Mary Burton Ashby, 89, wife of the late Walter B. Ashby, Jr. and a resident of Painter, Virginia, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Mallard Bay Healthcare in Cambridge, MD. A native of Wachapreague, VA, she was the daughter of the late William Herbert Burton and the late Juanita Bunting Burton. Mrs. Ashby was a member of the Painter-Garrison United Methodist Church and was retired from Kellam Energy and Floyd Energy. She was a avid fan of horseracing, slot machines, and bridge. She is survived by a daughter, Joan A. McGlaughlin of Linkwood, MD; a sister, Ruth Burton Fitzhenry of SC; four grandchildren, Lisa Gould and her husband Scott, Brian Boulter, Billie Jo Shockley and her husband Jeremy,and Michael E. McGlaughlin; and seven great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ashby was predeceased by a son, Walter Byron Ashby, III and a sister, and four brothers. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 7, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore with Pastor Joe McKnight officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Haven Cemetery.
