Marion Elizabeth Chenault Vick, 95, wife of the late Byrd Howell Vick and a resident of Cape Charles died Saturday, November 5, 2005. Born and reared in Lynchburg, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William Aubrey and Corrie Funai Chenault. She received her AB degree with honors from Randolph-Macon Woman's College. Granted a fellowship to study classics, she earned her MA degree in Latin from the University of Virginia. She also earned several credits in continuing education from the College of William and Mary. Coming to the Eastern Shore in 1934, she taught English, Latin, and Journalism for forty-six years, four years at Central High School, twenty-five years at Cape Charles High School and seventeen years at Broadwater Academy. Among other activities she was a member of the National Honor Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Classical Association of Virginia, the American Classical League, the Virginia Y.M.C.A., the Eastern Shore Chapter of the R.M.W.C Alumnae Association, and the Thomas Jefferson Society of the University of Virginia. She served as sponsor of the Tri Hi Y and the National Honor Society, as advisor in Christian Citizenship Development in the Model General Assembly, as director of the Classical Association of Virginia Latin Tournament; she was a member of the State evaluating teams and text book committee, a teacher of Sunday school at West Lynchburg Baptist Church and at Trinity United Methodist Church in Cape Charles. She is survived by two nephews and four nieces; William Aubrey Nichols, William Richard Smith, Michelle Smith Sciberras, Marion Smith Evans, Frances Knibb and Louise Knibb Dooley. Mrs. Vick was predeceased by a son, William Eben Vick. A graveside service will be conducted at Belle Haven Cemetery Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at 2:00 PM. It is requested that flowers be omitted.
