Marianna E. J. Gregory Edwards

Marianna Elizabeth Jacob Gregory Edwards, 88 passed away peacefully on February 25, 2011. Mrs. Edwards was born and raised on the Jacobia farm in Cape Charles, Virginia and was predeceased by her husbands , Joseph Gregory of Boonton, New Jersey, and Alton E. Edwards of Hampton, Virginia. She was the daughter of Edwin Seymour Jacob of Cape Charles,Virginia, and Angela Noel Morris Jacob of Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Edwards, who lived her entire life on the Jacobia farm as a home-maker for her two husbands and care-giver for her parents, attended Longwood College, was a member of the Colonial Dames Society, The Eastern Shore Historical Society and Holmes Presbyterian Church where she served in many capacities including teaching Sunday school for many years. She dearly loved all aspects of nature, the arts, parties, boat rides, reading, going for long rides, history of the Eastern Shore, and above all, her family. Aunt Mariabeth, as she was affectionately called by her nieces and nephews, was always in the process of planning get-togethers for her family members and friends. Although she had no children of her own, she dearly loved children and bestowed her affection on her nieces and nephews and the children of her friends. Mrs. Edwards is survived by her brother Noel Morris Jacob, of Cape Charles, first cousin Sally Addison Jacob of Virginia Beach, nephews Edwin S. Jacob III (Becky) of Chesapeake, Virginia, William C. Jacob of Hayden, North Carolina, and nieces Angela Mullaney (Bill) of Jacksonville, Florida, Marianna Ruffino (Mariano) of Reno, Nevada, great nieces Elizabeth, Katie, Noel, and Sarah, great nephews Brian, Joseph, Stephen, and William, and stepdaughter, Carol Ann Taylor of Chesterfield, Virginia. (and her children Victoria McKown (Keith) and son Kevin. Services will be held at Holmes Presbyterian Church in Cape Charles Saturday, March 5 at 3:00 pm with the Rev. Eugene Soud officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. A celebration of life for family and friends will immediately follow the service at the Rosebro building, adjacent to the church.
