Marguerite Arlene Vrooman Rulison, 90, wife of the late Lyle Laden Rulison and a resident of Occohannock Neck, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008. A native of New York, she was the daughter of the late Elmer Daniel Vrooman, the late Julia Louise Laraway Vrooman Demarest and the late Herman Demarest. Marguerite raised her children in Syracuse, New York. She retired in 1980 to Largo, Florida after 30 years as a supervisor in sporting goods manufacturing. In 2002 she joined housemates Harold Goldstine and Gerda Halbig at her grandson's home on Occohannock Neck, next door to her daughter and son-in-law. She was a unique woman who spoke her mind, worked hard, prevailed against tough times and was devoted to her friends and family. She loved little children and her old cat Ty. She is survived by a daughter, Dawn Goldstine and her husband James of Occohannock Neck, VA., a son, Stephen Rulison and his wife Judith of Concord Wharf, VA., sister, Elizabeth DePasquale of Clifton Heights, N.Y., four grandchildren, Christopher Goldstine and his wife Linda of Marinette, WI., Shara Walden and her husband Jeffrey of Freeville, NY., Ellyce Korber and her husband David of Blue Bell, PA., Stephen Rulison and his husband Kenneth Carty of Boston, MA., and four great-grandchildren, Matthew Goldstine of Marinette, WI., Sarah Korber of Blue Bell, PA., Grace and Trevor Walden of Freeville, N.Y. Other than her husband, mother, father, and step-father, she was predeceased by three brothers, Robert, Wesley, and Richard Demarest, and a sister, Carolyn Demarest. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 2:00 PM from the Doughty Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Schoeman officiating.
