Luther Whitman

Luther Irving Whitman, 77, husband of Elizabeth Walta Whitman and a resident of Exmore, VA, passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014 at his residence. A native of Bayford, VA, he was the son of the late George M. Whitman and the late Carrie Hawkins Whitman. He was a United States Navy Veteran, retired maintenance supervisor at Petersburg General Hospital and attended Maranatha Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Margaret Coley and her husband, Tony, of Macon, GA, Rosemary Field of Macon, Jackie McDaniels and her husband, Gary, of Macon, Teresa Shores and her husband, Durwood, of Westfiels, NC, Penny Henshaw and her, husband, Thomas, of Ford, VA; a brother, George M. Whitman, Jr. of Petersburg, VA; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and a nephew. A graveside service will be conducted Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, South Prince George, VA with Pastor Michael Muender officiating. Family will join friends at J.T. Morriss Funeral Home, 103 S. Adams Street, Petersburg, VA on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite #3, Onancock, VA 23417.
