Lucy Taylor Mears

February 15, 1906 — July 10, 2012

Lucy Taylor Mears, 106, wife of the late Clarence L. Mears and a resident of Belle Haven, VA, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at her residence. A native of Mappsburg, VA, she was the daughter of the late Custis Taylor and the late Minnie Hopkins Taylor. She was a member of Belle Haven United Methodist Church, and member and Past Electa of Northampton Chapter #2 Order of the Eastern Star. She is survived by five children, Meme Lee Mason of Exmore, VA, Maxwell Mears of Baltimore, MD, Carolyn Ann Hall and her husband, Stewart, of New Church, VA, Bobby Mears and his companion, Shirley, of Pocomoke, MD, Ernest Ray Mears and his companion, Loretta, of Hallwood, VA; a daughter-in-law, Ilse S. Mears of Prattville, AL; 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a daughter, Gladys M. Skoogs, three sons, Clarence L. Mears, Jr., Rooker W. Mears, and an infant son, Robert Mears. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11:00 AM at Belle Haven United Methodist Church with Reverend Judith Worthington officiating. Interment will follow in the Belle Haven Cemetery. Family will join friends at the Doughty Funeral Home Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Belle Haven United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 37, Belle Haven, VA 23306 or to Hospice of the Eastern Shore, 165 Market Street, Suite #3, Onancock, VA 23417.
