Louise Mulligan Hutchinson, 88, wife of the late Raymond E. Hutchinson and a resident of Cheriton, VA, passed away at her residence Thursday, October 29, 2009. She was born on August 14, 1921 in Providence, RI, as the first child of Dr. Edward William and Ida Ransdell Mulligan. Upon graduating from St. Joseph's Academy in Tucson, AZ, in 1939, Louise attended the University of Arizona for two years until 1941 when her studies were interrupted by World War II. At the beginning of the war, her family moved back to Washington, D.C. where she went to work for the US Treasury Department. In 1963, she moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia with her husband, Ray, where they purchased and operated the Peacock Motor Inn for almost a decade. They left the shore in the early 1970's only to return to the place they loved in 1984 to retire. Purchasing a home in Cheriton, they renewed old friendships and created many new ones. Louise is survived by her only sibling, Edward William Mulligan; three children, Jacqueline Louise Howard, John Elbridge Lansdale, and William Edward Hutchinson; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Louise Heath, Daniel Kendrick Jackson, Dallas Lee Brown, David Anthony Lansdale, Grace Louise Lansdale, Emily B. Hutchinson, and Joseph W. Hutchinson. She was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jane Jackson. A prayer service will be held at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cape Charles on Monday, November 2, 2009, at 4:00 PM. She will be the last member of her family interred in a 150 year old family plot in Manassas, Virginia.
