Louellen Ashby Custis, 88, wife of the late James Thomas Custis and a resident of Exmore, passed away Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Nassawadox, VA. She was the daughter of the late John Colbourn Ashby and the late Effie James Ashby. Mrs. Custis was a graduate of Mary Washington College and a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Bess Custis Savage and her husband, Bill, of Quinby, VA and a son, James Thomas Custis, Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Painter, VA; six grandchildren, Natalie McAllen of Craddockville, VA, Carylon M. Ulrich of Cheriton, VA, Trevor Savage of Williamsburg, VA, James Thomas Custis, III of Graham, NC, Lynn Ashby Custis of Painter and Hillary Custis of Blacksburg, VA; and two great grandchildren, Stacy and William Ulrich. Mrs. Custis was predeceased by a daughter, Effie Lou McAllen, a sister, Virginia Ashby Metz, and two brothers, Sam and John Thomas Ashby. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery with Rev. Joe McKnight officiating.
