Lewis Lynwood Crockett, 71, husband of the late Frances Spencer Crockett and a resident of Nassawadox,VA, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011 at his residence. A native of Urbanna, VA, he was the son of the late Louis and Ella Dize Crockett. Mr. Crockett was a retired Gunnery Sergeant of the U.S. Marines Corps. Having received the National Defense Service Medal, Presidental Unit Citation-Good Conduct Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Vietnamese Campaign Medal, Mr. Crockett was a member of DAV Chapter #1, VFW Post 15048 Richmond, VA, and the American Legion Post #0141 Richmond, VA. Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Crockett Charles and her husband John of Hampton, VA; a son, Gregory Lewis Crockett of Chincoteague, VA; two sisters, Peggy Lewis of Deep Creek, VA and Eldora Hunt of Shallotte, NC; and three grandchildren, Ella Hansford Charles, Walker Lewis Charles and William Wallace Charles. Mr. Crockett was predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Mae Carpenter and Joanne Dix. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at the graveside of Belle Haven Cemetery with Pastor Jonathan Carpenter officiating. Following the service the family invites friends to join them at the Franktown United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall.
